PPM councillor for Hulhuhenveyru Constituency,
Zaidul Ameen, has said that it is more important for the ruling party to
rid itself of President Yaameen than getting ready for another
election.
Describing the President as a “menace” to the country, Zaidul Ameen said that it is extremely crucial for the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) to find another candidate for the 2018 presidential elections.
“We cannot be announcing candidates for the next local council elections when the government formed by our party destroyed the system of dencentralised governance”, he added.
The councillor further insisted that PPM has been marginalizing councilors in party rallies and events, portraying them as “unimportant” representatives.
Apart from this, Zaidul Ameen called on former President Maumoon Abdul Qayyoom and the Leader of PPM to withdraw his support for President Yaameen in public interest.
Zaidul Ameen had been dismissed from the party’s council for taking a picture with the jailed former Defence Minister Mohamed Nazim in Singapore.
Meanwhile, the ruling party has formed a special committee to prepare for the next local council elections.
