MP for South Galolhu constituency Ahmed Mahloof has
claimed that his colleague MP Asmaa Rasheed had burst into tears, a
number of times, during PPM Parliamentary Group meetings due to being
belittled.
Speaking during the debate on the amendment to the Decentralization Act submitted by MP Rozaina Adam, Mahloof said he had witnessed first-hand the way PPM parliamentarians treat women.
“I have seen MP Asma Rasheed being mocked at during PPM Parliamentary Group meetings. I know very well what most PPM MPs think of women”, he added.
Mahloof had said so immediately after the Deputy Leader of the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) Parliamentary Group, MP Riyaz Rasheed claimed he was being disturbed by “a few promiscuous women in Parliament”.
During today’s debate, several ruling party MPs, including MP for Eydhafushi constituency Ahmed Saleem, had made controversial remarks about women.
In a rather shocking statement, MP Saleem had also insisted “men generally experience mental illnesses due to their cheating wives”.
