The Opposition will emerge victorious before May Day this year, Maldivian Democratic Party’s Chairperson Ali Waheed has claimed.

Speaking on RaajjeTV’s ‘Fala Surukhee’ programme, Sunday night, Ali Waheed said that it was time for the opposition to speak about toppling the Yaameen regime without hesitance, and insisted President Yaameen had lost both the moral and legal legitimacy to remain in office.

Ali Waheed also stressed that President Yaameen should either agree to an interim arrangement for a democratic transition or simply resign.

He further reiterated the MDP’s stand to boycott the all-party talks until the Government fulfills all of their demands.
The MDP has, on a number of occasions, claimed that they would not join the political dialogue unless and until all political prisoners, including former President Nasheed and Sheikh Imran Abdulla, are released unconditionally.

During last night’s programme, Ali Waheed had also leaked two different audio clips involving President Yaameen.

While in the first clip, former MP and business tycoon Abdulla Jabir is heard informing then Tourism Minister Adheeb that President Yaameen had agreed to influence the judiciary in return for a MVR10 million bribe, in the second clip, President Yaameen is heard describing the leader of Jumhooree Party, Gasim Ibrahim, as politically insignificant.
