Leaked audio of one of the officers who had
handled the improvised explosive device (IED) found near Mulee-aage in
November 2015, reveals that the IED could have been planted by the
government.
In the audio obtained by RaajjeTV, an individual identifying himself as an MNDF officer can be heard saying the "bomb" was not discovered through a special operation, but that it was discovered through a sorcerer.
Noting that MNDF officers had been the first to arrive at the scene after receiving the report, he said that when they arrived, the area had been already cordoned off. However, it is unclear who had cordoned off the area.
The officer said that after learning that the bomb was designed to be detonated from a distance using a remote control, they had cut off the network and brought a jammer and that he had told relevant officials that it needed to be defused right there.
He is also heard saying that while they opted to take the IED out of Male', they were unable to do so due to limited time and had instead used the bomb container, obtained for 2004 SAARC Summit.
Noting that they were told to make sure not to defuse the bomb if possible, in order to obtain fingerprints, the officer is heard saying that an officer had moved in and cut off the power wire and part of the IED.
The officer also said that they only learned that the IED was made from dynamite after taking it to the MNDF armory and that they had decided to take it to Girifushi as dynamite is an unstable explosive.
He is also heard saying that he believed that the IED had been planted by the government, in order to declare a state of emergency in the country.
MDP Chairperson Ali Waheed, who provided the audio clip to RaajjeTV, assured that the audio clip is authentic and that that it was leaked through MNDF.
He noted that the audio further proves that President Abdulla Yameen is behind everything and that this was done in order to redirect the public's attention from the corruption scandal involving the President, and to keep the citizens in a state of emergency.
