The Civil Court has on Thursday issued a
temporary injunction to halt publishing Haveeru Daily, the oldest and
most well-established newspaper in the Maldives over an ownership
dispute.
The Civil Court’s order comes a few months after the High Court ruled that Haveeru Daily is not the sole property of its current owner Dr. Mohamed Zahir Hussain.
The High Court ruling on August 25, 2015 stated that Abdulla Farooq Hassan, Ibrahim Rasheed Moosa and Mohamed Naeem are equal shareholders in Haveeru as they are four founding members of the Haveeru News Agency established in 1983.
Prior to the appeal at the High Court, the Civil Court had ruled in favour of Zahir.
The appellate court’s ruling had also mentioned “the agreement signed between the founding members of Haveeru News Agency on March 31, 1983 has not been annulled and therefore the agreement is present to date and valid,”
