Maldives Media Council has summoned two RaajjeTV
journalists to the council just a few days after the Presidential
Spokesperson Ibrahim Muaz Ali threatened to take action against the TV
station for “spreading misinformation” about President Yaameen Abdul
Qayyoom.
The two journalists summoned to the council are RaajjeTV’s Chief Operating Officer Hussein Fiyaz Moosa and Senior Video Journalist Mohamed Fazeen.
Ibrahim Muaz Ali had on January 25 said that they would file a case against RaajjeTV for falsely linking President Yaameen to the MMPRC corruption scandal.
RaajjeTV had on January 25 revealed that hundreds of leaflets accusing President Yaameen of embezzling the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) funds had been dumped in various locations of the MNDF Headquarters.
The station had reported that the said leaflets showed a $500,000 cheque from the MMPRC issued on August 17, 2015 and claimed it was deposited into President Yaameen’s personal account at the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) branch in Maldives.
