Magistrate of ADh. Maamigili court Ahmed Nihan,
arrested over the allegedly "invalid" warrant issued for President
Abdulla Yameen's arrest, has been suspended.
Judicial Service Commission decided to suspend Nihan following a meeting on Tuesday afternoon.
According to the Commission, those who attended the meeting unanimously voted in favor of suspending Nihan. However, it did not disclose the names of the members in attendance at today's meeting.
Nihan was arrested late Sunday night, along with former Prosecutor General Muhuthaz Muhusin, over the allegedly "invalid" warrant issued for President Abdulla Yameen's arrest.
While Nihan has been issued a remand of seven day, Muhusin was released on Monday afternoon, after being produced in court for his remand hearing.
However, he was released on condition that he cooperates with the Maldives Police Service in the investigation into the "invalid" arrest warrant. He has denied any involvement in the "forged" arrest warrant.
Earlier on Sunday, police had issued a press briefing revealing that they are investigating group of individuals who collaborated to "make" a "fake court document" purporting it to be a court warrant for the arrest of President Abdulla Yaameen Abdul Qayyoom.
