Former President Mohamed Nasheed has been given 30 days
for his surgery in the United Kingdom, the Minister of Home Affairs Umar
Naseer has said.
Speaking to RaajjeMV, Umar Naseer said that although the former President had been given 30 days initially, the period could be extended by another 45 days, should the doctors recommend it.
The Home Minister had, on Saturday, said that former President Nasheed was granted permission to travel to the United Kingdom under the Former Presidents' Immunity and Privileges Act, according to the advise of the Attorney General.

Nasheed is set to leave to the United Kingdom tonight.
Following the Government's decision to allow Nasheed a foreign trip, the former President's wife, Laila Ali had told The Hindu she was "overjoyed" and that she "never believed that the Government would grant him the permission to travel abroad for surgery".
The former First Lady also added that the Maldivian government's decision was the result of the pressure of the international community, "especially India, Sri Lanka and the United Kingdom".
