Former President Nasheed’s lawyer Hisaan Hussain has
informed the media that the team has received Nasheed’s medical reports,
following tests conducted on December 6.
Hisaan stated that although the Home Minister and the Maldives Correctional Services claim that the surgery recommended for Nasheed can be performed in Maldives, the medical reports suggest otherwise.
She elaborated that the former President was suffering from “nerve compression” and the minimally invasive “keyhole surgey” recommended by the doctors was not a service available in Maldives.
“President Nasheed’s nerve compression can be treated by a high-risk invasive method, or the safer, minimally invasive method. The latter cannot be performed in Maldives”, she said.
The former President’s family and legal team have repeatedly raised concerns about the lack of medical assistance provided to him by the authorities in the past 9 months.
