Jailed former President Mohamed Nasheed was brought to ADK Hospital in Male’ for a medical treatment on Sunday.
According to RaajjeMV journalists present at the hospital, President Nasheed was treated inside a private room.
Nevertheless, RaajjeMV has been unable to contact Madives Correctional Services to enquire about the nature of this treatment.
Several of former President Nasheed’s supporters had called for his release when he was being taken back to the Male’ Jail after the three-hour medical treatment at ADK Hospital.
The former President’s family and legal team have repeatedly raised concerns about the lack of medical assistance provided to him by the authorities in the past 9 months.
Speaking to RaajjeMV in early November, MP for Galolhu Uthuru, Eva Abdulla—who is also the former President’s cousin—said that the authorities were not providing physiotherapy to Nasheed as recommended by his doctor.
She further claimed that Maldives Correctional Services had denied the former President the chance to exercise regularly, and noted that a floodlight had been lit over Nasheed’s prison cell every night “to torture him”.
Two months back, the former President’s legal counsel Hassan Latheef was barred from meeting his client for one month “for passing on Nasheed’s messages to the public”.
Hassan Latheef had later lodged a case at the Civil Court requesting the court to deem the order unlawful.
