Former President Mohamed Nasheed’s private bodyguard Ali Shifah (Body Ayya) has passed away on Sunday.
According to his family, the 38-year-old had been taken to Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) on the 18th of this month due to a brain haemorrhage.
Before his death, Shifah had been transferred to ADK Hospital, where he underwent a surgery.
Speaking to RaajjeMV, Deputy Vice President of the Maldivian Democratic Party, Mohamed Shifaz, said that Shifah’s death was an irreplaceable loss to the party, and highlighted that the former President’s bodyguard was an exemplary freedom fighter who dedicated most of his life to the service of the nation.
Shifah was also one of the men onboard the ‘Namoona’ boat, which departed to Male' from Addu carrying hundreds of protestors during the Maumoon administration.
