Former President Nasheed has extended his regards to the people of the Maldives.
Speaking at the rally held in B.Thulhaadhoo last night, lawyer Hassan Latheef said that during a meeting held with his client after a long gap, former President Nasheed had requested him to convey his warmest regards to the people of the Maldives.
Hassan Latheef further stated that the Maldivian Democratic Party was the only party capable of governing the country, and claimed that the opposition would not stand idly by as the Government reverts the country into a dictatorship.
“MDP only engages in peaceful, non-violent political activity. However, our activities are met with brute force and suppression”, he added.
Until recently, Hassan Latheef was unable to meet with his client due to a ban imposed by the Home Ministry.
Home Minister Umar Naseer had accused Hassan Latheef of “passing on President Nasheed’s messages to the public", and insisted lawyers would not be granted permission to meet with clients to discuss issues unrelated to the case.
