A procedural meeting for jailed former President Mohamed Nasheed's appeals case had been held at the Supreme Court.
Nasheed's appeal was filed by the Prosecutor General asking for a review of Nasheed's sentence citing various international concerns over the way the trial was carried out by the lower court. However the High Court threw out the case after asking the Prosecutor General to justify why he was appealing a case he had won.
The Prosecutor General then filed the case at the Supreme Court asking for redress as the High Court had thrown the case out.
A two sentence press release issued by the Supreme Court said that the procedural meeting was to ensure whether the Criminal Court, when sentencing Nasheed had followed all lawful procedures and to ensure whether the Court had followed all laws and regulations during the trial and during the sentencing of Nasheed.
While the Supreme Court had a procedural meeting for the appeals case, former President Nasheed was not brought in for the meeting.
When questioned by RaajjeMV over the matter, President Nasheed's legal team said that they had not been informed about any meeting regarding the appeal of their clients case.
Supreme Court said that they had questioned all necessary individuals and gotten the information they needed to clarify the concerns raised by the Prosecutor General. The meeting was adjourned after announcing that another meeting will be scheduled if the Court needed to summon anyone for further information.
