Former President Mohamed Nasheed wishes for as many of his supporters to take part in the “Mijuvan” (To Get Rid) mass protest planned for Friday 27th November, his legal team has said.
Lawyer Hassan Latheef said that Nasheed believes his conviction and imprisonment were imposed to make political gains and a political solution is needed to end it. He called on his supporters to work for a political solution to bring an end to his 13 year prison sentence.
President Nasheed requests supporters to work for his release. He does not believe a solution can be found from the courts alone. He calls on supporters to take part in the rally planned for 27th November.”
The mass protest on 27th was first scheduled to be held earlier this month, but it was delayed following the declaration of State of Emergency. Supporters of former Vice President Ahmed Adheeb had raised their support for the opposition planned protest. protest would continue non-stop for 72 hours starting from 04:00 pm on Friday evening.
