A donation box has been opened at the Artificial Beach area, where the
opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) is staging a mass protest,
to help those affected by heavy rainfalls in Addu City two days ago.
Whilst the opposition MDP has opened a fund box at the Artificial Beach area, the Addu City Council earlier launched a fund to provide financial assistance to those affected by the heavy rainfalls.
The Addu City Coundil had donated MVR 20,000 to the fund box. Protesters and members of the public are also making donations to help the people of Addu City. Addu City Council informed that a box will be located at the council office on Sunday.
Those who wish to directly donate money to the bank account can also take part in the contribution. Whilst Addu experienced record amount of rainfalls last week, several houses and public building sustained damages.
Addu City council said that over 200 households were affected by the rainfall.
