Civil Court has, on Sunday, accepted jailed
former President Mohamed Nasheed’s lawyer, Hassan Latheef’s lawsuit
against the Ministry of Home Affairs, following the Ministry’s decision
to bar him from meeting with his clients.
Latheef received a letter on October 27 saying that he had been "barred from meeting with any individuals under detention for a period of one month."
Latheef had described the letter, signed by the Minister of Home Affairs Umar Naseer, as "“ultra vires and unconstitutional."
Latheef is part of Nasheed's legal counsel that also consists of renowned international lawyers Ben Emmerson, Amal Clooney and Jared Genser.
