Prosecutor General’s Office has stated that the Supreme Court has not
informed of any matters related to the appeal case submitted regarding
the terrorism conviction and 13 year prison sentence of former President
Mohamed Nasheed.
PG Office media official told CNM that the PG Office has not been informed of the Supreme Court’s decision on accepting or rejecting Nasheed’s appeal case.
On September 18th, a case was filed at the Supreme Court after the High Court’s decision to reject the appeal Nasheed’s terrorism conviction.
High Court ruled that the Criminal Court had followed the key four procedures in Nasheed’s terrorism trial.
However, Nasheed’s Office stated that the High Court ruling was made without obtaining his opinion on the matter.
The office also stated that the form requesting to appeal the case and other relevant documents were not provided when requested.
Nasheed’s Office accused the High Court of violating the constitution, the laws and international conventions.
High Court rejected the appeal case citing that it does not fit the situations mentioned in the Article 43 of the Judicature Act.
