Parliament members belonging to
Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has started protesting for former
President Mohamed Nasheed’s freedom in the first sitting of the
third term of the People’s Majlis.
Housing Minister Dr. Mohamed Muizzu was invited to the sitting to be questioned about the chairs in the Addu City Equatorial Convention Center being brought to Male’.
However, MDP MPs created chaos in the chamber and hung a banner behind the minister’s seat, demanding the immediate release of the imprisoned former President Nasheed.e
The protesting MPs were demanding Nasheed’s release in addition to accept the decision of the UN Working on Arbitrary Detention.
Furthermore, the members created chaos to free President Nasheed when the proposal to rethink the bill about clemency act that was forwarded to the president was sent back with the request to reconsider.
