President Abdulla Yameen has been spying on Vice President Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed’s Viber chat logs.
A parliament member of the ruling Progressive Party of Maldives, under anonymity, revealed to RaajjeMV that the President had acquired access to Jameel’s Viber chats and that it was not done via Maldives Police Service, but through "other means."
President Yameen is to have said this at a meeting held with the government coalition on the 7th of July at Mulee-aage.
He is to have said that he had “no trust” in the vice president at the meeting as well.
The source also said that the mentioning of the “other means” could be an indication to someone who spoke with the VP.
Another member revealed that the President had shown around 15 papers indicating that they were Dr. Jameels’ chat logs.
He also noted that if the messages were real that it could be quite “worrisome.” However, the source did not provide further details.
RaajjeMV had previously reported that the government began spying on Vice President Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed since he departed the country for medical purposes.
The ruling Progressive Party has since submitted an impeachment motion against Dr. Jameel which was accepted to the parliament floor. The vote on the impeachment motion is to be scheduled for the 21st of July.
The VP, currently in UK, will be responding in writing, to the no-confidence motion petition against him.
Members of the government have publicly accused the VP of joining the opposition and working against the government. Reportedly, some members are working to submit a resolution against the VP accusing him of working to give the country a bad reputation.
