Maldives Police Service has on Saturday said that under directives of President Abdulla Yameen, an investigation has been launched to see how Azlif Rauf, a suspect in the Murder of MP Afrashim Ali left Maldives during the ongoing investigation.

Speaking to RaajjeMV, Media Official at MPS said that a number of cases against Azlif Rauf were being investigated prior to probing the investigation on his exit.

He said that the police do not monitor if people under investigation leave the country or not, after they are released from police detention.

President Abdulla Yameen speaking to press last night said that he needs to know how Azlif left Maldives while he was investigated for murder.

The President said the then Defence Minister and Immigration Controller should be answerable to Azlif leaving the country.

Azilf reportedly left Maldives around the 7th of January, the same time Tourism Minister Ahmed Adheeb temporarily took command of the Defense Ministry.

The Immigration Controller Hassan Ali was removed from his post soon after, on the 25th of January.

While politicians, religions advocates and the prime suspect in the case have testified in court pointing to President Yameen and Tourism Minister Ahmed Adheeb as co-conspirators in the murder of MP Afrashim, President Yameen denied these claims and said that he too needed to dig into the true details of MP Afrahim’s Murder.
