Previously, the former President, without fail, via social media congratulated members of PPM who were appointed as senior officials, parliamentarians as well as council members.
While it has been 24 hours since Adeeb was appointed as VP, Maumoon is yet to congratulate him, via social media or otherwise.
According to a source close to the former President, "President Maumoon has not congratulated Adeeb and he will not do so."
learnt that Maumoon had been against appointing Adeeb as VP.
There had been reports that Maumoon had even campaigned against Adeeb.
However, the former President had stated via twitter, that “he did not have preference for a particular person to become vice president,” and that “as per the Constitution the appointment of a vice president in case the position falls vacant is the sole prerogative of the President.”
Reportedly, Maumoon was opposed to Adeeb’s appointment because he was fearful that Adeeb would try to take over PPM and also because he wanted one of his children to compete in the 2018 or 2023 presidential elections.
There also has been rumors that Maumoon was displeased by the recently passed bill that deems the age limit lowered from 35 to 30 and a limit set at 65 years. @raajje.mv
