ACC investigates corruption allegations against Tourism Minister Adheeb
The Anti-Corruption Commission has said
that it has probed an investigation into the corruption allegations
against Tourism Minister Ahmed Adheeb.
According to the commission, it is currently questioning relevant people regarding the issue.
The former Auditor General released an Audit Report of the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation that implicated Adheeb of a MVR 77 Million scandal.
The then Auditor General Niyaz Ibrahim was sacked from his post shortly, following an amendment to the Audit Act.
ACC President Hassan Luthfy said that a number of cases of corruption within the state are being investigated along with the allegation against Minister Adheeb.
He said along with Adheeb, corruption allegations against Chairman of opposition Maldivian Democratic Party Ali Waheed is also being investigated.
He said due to the pending investigation, further information could not be released.
Adheeb who is under investigation of corruption has begun his campaign to become Vice President as the parliament sets up to vote on a no confidence motion against VP Mohamed Jameel Ahmed in the coming weeks.
